For the UPS Worldport in the Louisville, Kentucky airport (SDF), Caldwell built two Jet Fuel A Storage Tanks with a combined capacity of 4.4 million gallons. Each is a 90-foot diameter by 50-foot shell height column-supported roof Field-Erected tank, both made from carbon steel.
The key part to note about these tanks: Caldwell needed to design and size the tanks, their Aluminum Internal Floating Roofs, as well as their Floating Suction outlets so that when completed, it would be possible to drain either tank completely within 10 minutes. UPS set this requirement due to the amount of fuel they knew they would have to use for Black Friday shopping season. We like to think that these tanks have gone on to power Santa’s sleigh.
