The Big Bat has earned record-worthy attention as the world’s largest baseball bat. Made of steel, the completed project weighs 68,000 pounds as it towers 120 feet into the sky. Caldwell built The Big Bat to model an exact-scale replica of Babe Ruth’s 34-inch Louisville Slugger bat.
Ordinarily, a structure soaring at this size might stumble into obstacles with local signage authorities; however, the bat simultaneously serves as a plumbing vent that supports the basement bathrooms in the Louisville Slugger Museum. As such, the city granted this global sensation an exception.
